The YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago will host TABOO on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 5:30pm at the Public Hotel in Chicago.
My longtime #GirlPolitics pal Christie Hefner will moderate. The panel will include Dr. Lauren Streicher (author of Love Sex Again), and Maggie Anderson, author of Our Black Year. No doubt, we’ll have fun and be provocative.
If you’re in-town, I hope you will join us. If not, let your friends who are know we’re around, in case they want to join in the fun.
All the best.

Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Toni Preckwinkle, President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, and I will exchange thoughts on women in politics on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at “Chicago Style,” sponsored by the Institute of Politics of the University of Chicago.
No surprise, I’m sure: there is a chapter about Toni in Every Day Is Election Day: A Woman’s Guide. I’m thinking that, with all the graduations coming up, her inspirational and tough-minded story is the perfect gift for young women with big dreams, not to mention for their mothers, sisters, aunts, partners, girlfriends; well, you get the picture. Click here for info about online buying options. If you prefer, visit your favorite local bookstore. In any event, Every Day Is Election Day and its frank advice will help you get ready for 2014. For, remember: every year is the year of the woman.
On the 41st anniversary of the SCOTUS decision in Roe v. Wade, let us remember that women’s lives are at stake when abortion is illegal.
Remember: #everydayiselectionday for women at-risk. Please do your part.
I’m off to another M state. This time, it’s Minnesota.
Likely, the temps will be a lot cooler than Mississippi’s, but the people just as warm. In fact, I know this is the case, since I will be visiting with Carleton College friends-of-decades and their great women-leader pals.
Thanks to Beverly Jones Heydinger, chair of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (and great friend since freshman year Carleton College!), for providing the impetus for this evening’s gathering at womenwinning.org, to include the terrific Erin Murphy, Majority Leader of the Minnesota House of Representatives. If you’re around and free, do join us. Here are the detes:

Best wishes for a wonderful day (sure is perfect today in Chicago for YWCA LeaderLuncheon, just as it should be for such a great organization.)
Dear Colleagues and Readers:
Illinois Democratic Women will gather Saturday June 15th for a business meeting, some terrific training sessions, and for meetings with Illinois’ amazing women Members of Congress. I think there is still time to register, if you are so inclined.
I was delighted to learn I will be introduced to give my convention keynote by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Thank you Lisa and IDW. I’m honored to be joining you.
Happy Flag Day to all.
